Chris Hardie joined Schmidt Hammer Lassen in 2008 to lead the concept design team in London alongside founding partner Morten Schmidt.
In 2010, Chris founded our Shanghai studio and as Design Director he leads the work of our Asia practice, responsible for current projects such as Shanghai’s new Central Library, Ningbo New Library, Beijing’s upcoming Opera House and the world’s largest waste to energy power plant in Shenzhen.
Chris has been involved in and led a number of international projects for Schmidt Hammer Lassen, including the University of Aberdeen New Library, the International Criminal Court in the Hague, and the City of Westminster College in London. In 2009 Chris led the design and public consultation process for the new Halifax Central Library in Nova Scotia, completed in 2014 and highlighted by CNN as one of the world’s most exciting new projects in 2014. The project was awarded the Governor General Medal for Architecture in Canada in 2016.
Chris is an Honorary Professor of Architecture at The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, UK.

Elif Tinaztepe brought years of international experience working in London and Los Angeles to Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in 2005. She applies her distinctive design sense to cultural, civic, and higher education projects, while also leading the firm’s library specialist work, a typology for which the company is best known. Her thoughtful, analytical approach to design, coupled with her passion for client collaboration and the transformative power of architecture, has led to a timeless body of work that spans continents and character.
Elif has a unique ability to untangle the most complex of projects to successfully facilitate dialogue with clients, users and other stakeholders, whether on ongoing projects or in international workshops. The result is a wake of buildings that are multilayered in functionality, yet easy to approach, rich in detail while appearing effortless.
Elif is a regular lecturer and workshop facilitator at international conferences globally.

Kasper Frandsen’s high design skills cultivated over his 18-year career at Schmidt Hammer Lassen is matched by his keen ability to inspire and guide the next generation of architects. Kasper co-authored the firm’s strategic creative management process that informs Schmidt Hammer Lassen’s conceptual work. Over the course of Masahiro Katsume’s 18-year tenure at Schmidt Hammer Lassen, he has managed a variety of international projects in Europe and China, often in the housing, office, and mixed/use sectors. Prior to joining the firm, Masahiro spent 20 years in leadership roles at a prominent architectural firm in Japan. Since co-founding Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in 1987, Morten Schmidt has developed a diverse portfolio of work and expertise in the planning and design of major libraries and cultural facilities across the globe, bringing an innovative, rational and clear design leadership to many of the practice’s highest profile projects. His expertise includes creating and communicating compelling design visions, advocating for design excellence, and building for enduring quality.
Morten’s early education in a Waldorf school, which emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, is a foundation for the spirituality, creativity and artistic freedom that permeate his work.
Morten continues to participate as a jury member, guest lecturer, and critic on issues of architecture, future libraries, urbanism, and sustainable design. In addition, Morten judges architectural competitions, and is an external examiner at the School of Architecture in Aarhus and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

Nuno Cruz joined Schmidt Hammer Lassen’s competition department in 2013, and has since expanded his reach to the Project Development Department leading a team of 30 architects on some of the firm’s most prominent North American projects. Nuno’s creativity, unrelenting attention to detail, and global sensibility has moved a diverse array of projects forward over the last decade. Prior to joining Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Nuno trained and practiced as an architect in North America, Scandinavia, Asia, and Europe.
As a computational design expert, he has coordinated management, training, and implementation of building information modeling and parametric design in diverse building types and scales. As a building envelope specialist, he has pushed forward design-driven innovation, resiliency, creative solutions, and materiality exploration in a multitude of projects.
Nuno is an active leader in the industry, having been an invited architectural critic at the University of Minneapolis and the University of Maryland for several years.

Pim IJsendoorn joined Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects in 2011. Pim is a very experienced project manager and architectural technologist, driven by the ambition to combine architectural, technical, legal, and financial constraints into a realized project. He has an extensive national and international portfolio in residential, public, healthcare, education. and hospitality projects.
Pim is especially skilled in coordination within the design team, being a knowledgeable and respected partner amongst engineers and local architect-of-record. He is skilled in

René Nedergaard joined Schmidt Hammer Lassen 15 years ago and works globally on projects of all scales. He is often drawn to masterplan projects and those with urban design elements that explore the local context and the impact of a project at city scale.
Educated in England and graduating from Bartlett School of Architecture Dipl. Arch and University of East London BSc (Hons), René has worked as an architect in the United Kingdom and Denmark with a focus on large-scale mixed-use projects and neighborhood planning.
