SHL awarded 1st prize in competition for Learning Center Bahrenfeld

We’re excited to share that our proposal for the Learning Center Bahrenfeld in Hamburg has been awarded 1st prize in the two-stage architectural competition, together with DFZ Architekten.

At the heart of the proposal is the creation of a spacious learning landscape that unfolds as a unifying spatial continuum between the three existing buildings.

The interstitial spaces create a multi-layered, vertically connected sequence of rooms, transforming the entire complex into a cohesive whole. Above, the structure is crowned by an expansive studio space offering far-reaching views across Hamburg.

The new program is coherently integrated into the existing building structure, accommodating both spaces for quiet study and reflection as well as open areas for learning, communication, and social interaction.

Together, they create a diverse environment that supports different forms of learning, exchange, and creative interaction.

The competition was commissioned by Landesbetrieb Immobilienmanagement und Grundvermögen (LIG).
