We're excited to showcase Pilefacade (Willow Facade) as part of Implement Materials – Towards a New Biogenic Building Culture.
Our industry is facing significant challenges that demand a rethinking of construction and building materials if we are to reduce our CO₂ footprint. This requires large-scale transformation—moving beyond "business as usual." There are countless areas to address, and one key focus is finding sustainable alternatives to carbon-intensive building materials.
Over the past year, together with a skilled and dedicated team, we have been working on Pilefacade—a project that, in 2024, was among four initiatives awarded a working grant from the Danish Association of Architects and Dreyers Fond.
Pilefacade seeks to bridge the gap between the use of local bio-based materials and industrial architectural building methods. The project explores how a creative approach can minimize material waste by focusing on a single plant and applying it across multiple façade components.
Thanks to the grant, we have been able to investigate:
- Thick willow branches for laminated structural beams and boards
- Willow for pressed boards
- Thin willow branches for rainscreen cladding
Join us on April 10th for the exhibition opening that will showcase Pilefacade along with three other exciting projects by Team Hemp, Team Straw and Team Grass.
Participation is free, but signup required!
Pilefacade is a collaboration between SHL, moow, Staticus and Pilebyg.
