A Decade of Dokk1!

An urban living room, a city life generator, a harbour revitaliser, and a meeting place that bridges generations and cultures— June 20 marks the 10th anniversary of Dokk1’s opening on Aarhus Harbour.

Home to the city’s public library and citizen service centre, a multi-purpose hall, municipal workspaces, the Aarhus State Archives, maker spaces, modern offices, a café, and outdoor playgrounds, Dokk1 was, from the outset, envisioned as a sheltered urban space where culture, media, knowledge-sharing, and people converge.

Over the past 25 years, we have designed more than 25 libraries worldwide, each offering new insights and experiences. Dokk1, located in Aarhus—the city where Schmidt Hammer Lassen was founded—holds a particularly special place in our hearts. 

It has been remarkable to witness how warmly Dokk1 has been embraced, becoming an integral part of the city’s identity and its users’ lives—a place to which people return time and again.
