Description:
Ved Anlægget is Vejle’s new cultural hub: a multi-purpose plaza that provides a versatile venue for a broad spectrum of activities. The plaza is a pivotal element in the cultural thoroughfare which terminates at the town’s new arts centre – The Building – overlooking the plaza.
Ved Anlægget provides a community venue for informal active recreation as well as planned cultural events. The design is rough and robust in that the surfacing material is black asphalt on which activity areas such as pedestrian zones and parking spaces are marked in signal colours.
Extended along the plaza’s central section, which connects the pedestrian traffic from the town centre with that coming from the western part of the town, is the arcade, which takes the form of a rack of galvanized steel in which containers in the same strong colours as those used on the surfacing are hung. Fitted with a flexible suspension system, the structure is readily adaptable to accommodate the wide diversity of multi-plaza activities. The tall climbing tower which is the plaza’s unifying vertical element acts as a punctuation point to the arcade. The 1,200 square metres large ice skating rink set up for the winter months and integrated into the plaza surface ensures that the plaza buzzes with life and activity all year round.
