Topping-out ceremony for Campus Skejby
Schmidt Hammer Lassen - SHL
The 26,000 m2 college will gather a long list of vocational disciplines under the same roof and create a flexible and cross-professional study environment for students, teachers and guests. In 2011, when Campus Skejby will be finished, it will accommodate 3,000 students and unify five different health educations as well as a further education department.
”Soon we will see the facade of Campus Skejby be supplemented by corten steel and bands of greenery which will accentuate the building in the landscape. With its centre of social spaces around the light-filled, covered atrium, the compact building has a gathering function. The atrium will become a meeting point for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, while the different teaching facilities throughout the building will provide the right setting for contemplation,” commented Associate Partner at schmidt hammer lassen architects, Kasper Frandsen.
With its focus on gathering people and encouraging knowledge sharing, Campus Skejby marks itself as a continuation of the practice’s other new educational buildings, in particular Thor Heyerdahl College in Norway (2009) and City of Westminster College in London which is scheduled to be inaugurated in the Spring of 2011.
