The names of the twelve competing architectural practices participating in the international competition for the coming headquarter of Siemens on the square Wittelbacherplatz in Munich, Germany, have been revealed. The list encompasses a number of Germany’s most acknowledged practices as well as international architectural firms from the UK, Spain, Austria and Denmark. schmidt hammer lassen architects is among the twelve chosen practices.
The new headquarter of Siemens will be located on a site bordering the streets Finkenstrasse, Oskar-von-Miller-Ring, Jägerstrasse and Kardinal-Döpfner-Strasse in Munich. The existing buildings will be demolished, except the newly renovated Ludwig Ferdinand Palace on the square Wittelbacherplatz. Construction is to begin in the fall of 2012 and the project is to be completed by the end of 2015.
The project aims for the World’s highest standards of sustainability and is going to incorporate sustainable, innovative products from Siemens. At the release of the list of the twelve invited architectural practices, President and CEO of Siemens, Mr. Peter Löscher, said: “It’s important for us to create a modern work environment for our employees and a lively, open inner-city area for the Munich public. And naturally the new building should meet the highest standards in sustainability and energy efficiency.”
By the end of June 2011, the 22 member jury is to announce the winner of the architectural competition. Aside from the members of Siemens’ Board of Directors, Peter Löscher, Birgitte Ederer and Joe Kaeser, the jury consists of The Mayor of Munich Christian Ude,
