schmidt hammer lassen architects awarded for Brørup Savings Bank
Schmidt Hammer Lassen - SHL
The jury chose Brørup Savings Bank based on the ground that the building offers an innovative sculptural architecture at one of the main approach roads of the town.
”Lots of large and medium-sized Danish towns have difficulties with main approach roads which are too often surrounded by unsightly buildings which compete for the attention of the passers-by with their big signs and colourful facades. The road Vejlevej in Fredericia is one such main approach road, however in the crossing between the roads Vejlevej and Vestre Ringgade, a rare gem has been built. At this location, Brørup Savings Bank has built a new branch which calls for the attention of the passers-by with its dynamic expression and white, broken facades. Not that it surpasses its neighbours in colourful signs, on the contrary, because it is an interesting sculptural building volume.”
The intention has been to create more than just a typical savings bank, but one where home values meets service. This is reflected in the multiple functions of the building including service, meeting and dialogue rooms, exhibition facilities, a lounge, an internal plaza and a drive-in. The Bank also works as a platform for meetings between its occupants.
