Schmidt Hammer Lassen - SHL
Hoping to answer some of these questions, schmidt hammer lassen architects attended an international library conference called Next Library from Sunday, June 19th to Wednesday, June 22nd. The theme of this year’s conference was “democracy, innovation and partnerships.”
There were 310 participants from 36 countries – among these librarians, executives from different international cultural organizations, library consultants and architects, who were brought together by their passion for developing and building “the next library.”
schmidt hammer lassen architects’ representatives, Trine Berthold and Elif Tinaztepe, ran a workshop session with Brian Gambles, Assistant Director of Culture for Birmingham City Council and Project Director for the new Birmingham Library. The point of departure was how to translate values and culture into built form. The majority of the session was dedicated to discussions, brainstorm and fun exercises. Two study trips were arranged to the Urban Mediaspace site where they answered questions about the project in detail.
