Description:
The Multi-Activity Centre in Aarhus is situated in a green area between Edwin Rahrs Vej to the north and Aaby Ringvej and Gudrunsvej to the south. The complex comprises a sports building, a community building and a kindergarten, thus spanning a broad spectrum of options and activities.
The multi-activity centre emerges, as it were, out of the landscape, offset around a central north-south oriented activity space – the centre’s heart. The activity space is a long, high-ceilinged, light-filled space flanked by the sports building to the east and the kindergarten, community building and terrace to the west.
The smallest building volumes are interspersed by a number of attractive and intimate outdoor spaces quite different in character from the open, scenic swards surrounding the complex. With its combination of light-toned brickwork and large windows, the multi-activity centre’s architecture is classic, simple and Nordic – beautifully situated on a grassy swathe, and surrounded by blossoming fruit trees.
