Description:
Framhallen is an existing sports centre located west of Fram's football fields. A conversion of the sports gym will enhance and expand its features and qualities, and make it part of an overall masterplan for the entire Fram Park Area.
The current Framhal was built in 1975 for the IF Fram Handball Club. The extension of the building will form the basis for new branches of sports and a café as a hub and focal point for the building. The new expanded and renovated sports centre will include a climbing centre, new training rooms and cloakroom facilities, a large foyer with room for a sports after-school-centre and a cafe with a balcony oriented towards both the sports gym and the climbing club.
The building will be extended in two directions. To the west two new floors are build on top of the existing wardrobe building. These two floors will contain facilities for artistic gymnastics, table tennis and disability sports. A new central stairway connecting the audience guidance facilities and the training rooms will include a lift, toilets and cloakroom.
Linking a new foyer building to the existing sports gym’s north gable will create a more integrated building addressed toward the slot, and thus help to strengthen its qualities as an urban space. The new north-facing façade will be carried out with an external mountaineering wall in the full height of the building, giving the building a spectacular expression. By placing a sports after-school-centre and more specialized functions, such as the climbing centre, in the new foyer building, life and new dynamics are added both to the building and the plaza.
