Description:
Color Hotel Skagen provides space for hotel, conference and wellness facilities. The building is designed as a circular ring which floats one storey above ground. Supported by columns, it incorporates rooms and holiday apartments across its two levels.
The lower ground floor, with its conference and meeting rooms, is designed for engagement and focus. Located at the very top are golf facilities, a swimming pool, a running track, a skybar and a promenade. Between the lower ground floor spaces for thinking and focus and the view-commanding top floor, nature intervenes. Located here are the arrival point, lobby and café, on a level with the dune landscape.
Set inside the ring are four parallel offset, transverse and rectangular volumes up to four storeys in height. The four volumes house all the remaining functions: a sports hall, a bowling alley and a wellness centre with spa. Walkways passing alongside and between the four volumes form a loose-knit system of circulation lines.
The dynamic composition comprising the ring and the four volumes is repeated on the façade where four built volumes are pushed out, gesturing towards the natural scenery. The materials alternate between light concrete, pale sandstone, organic timber and clear glass.
