Description:
Tianjin International Exhibition Centre is an exhibition venue situated at the heart of Tianjin – one of China’s foremost economic and technological high-growth regions.
The interior designed by schmidt hammer lassen architects exudes airiness, simplicity and calm balancing between a regional vernacular and international styles, between tradition and modernity. The spaces present an open, welcoming appearance and give the visitor a sense of legibility and a unified whole, despite the vastness of the area covered by the centre and its functional complexity.
The centre is effectively conceived of as a town in which four key generic spaces are articulated, i.e. market squares (exhibition halls), streets (corridors and balconies), buildings (meeting rooms) and cores (bars and cafés). Through the use of simple colour and material palettes including wood, glass and textiles, connections between the various areas and functions are established. The floor is conceived of as a unitary extended surface on which the centre building’s multiple functions unfold.
