Description:
The proposal for the Sheik Zayed Knowledge Centre is a metaphor for the idea that all knowledge originates from the beginning of the universe. The principles of nature form and create balance in our world.
It can be described as a rhythm between two. In space, the forces show their diversity, e.g. in the form of the countless galaxies. We interpret the clean-cut shape of the spiral as a metaphor of knowledge. The human being’s meeting with science occurs in a constant inwards-seeking direction, while the scale is magnified.
Located on a pier between sea and land, the Sheik Zayed Knowledge Centre incorporates the seven seas which connect all countries and cultures. The Sheik Zayed Knowledge Centre is a composition of two linked curves that at their intersection create the heart and hub of the centre which contains the plaza, the cinema cupola and the spiral ramps. Conference, workshop and VIP facilities are located on the upper floors. The outer spiral looks towards the horizon and the rest of the world beyond Abu Dhabi, while the inner spiral connects to the land and the people.
The unique silhouette manifests itself as an eye-catching landmark, distinguishing itself in the skyline of Abu Dhabi.
