Description:
The IT University is located in the northern part of Ørestaden between the University Canal and Amagerfælledvej with Copenhagen University and the Danish Broadcasting Corporation hub as close neighbours.
The IT University is composed of north-south oriented building slices which, dynamically arranged in a mutually offset fashion, deliver an invitingly open structure – a quality reinforced by the transparency of the construction and the façade. Raised on columns, the slim slices form arcades that face out onto the Canal Street and Grønningen. Nestled among these volumes is an atrium where broadly straddling walkways, two freestanding study towers, virtual reality studios, auditoria and terraces provide an active, stimulating pivot for the university community.
The slender slices are expressed as floating bands of dark steel, supported by narrow white concrete columns faced with high, svelte, glass panels. The precise building volumes of the IT University rise up over the green common as vivid and vibrant elements – capturing and reflecting the changing light of the skies.
