Description:
Kolding Technical College is set in a stretch of open landscape in the northern part of Kolding. The college is configured as five freestanding square buildings laid out on lightly undulating ground.
The campus comprises a single college building and four modestly-sized buildings for boarding. The buildings are conceived as a collection of pavilions that form a communal open space at their heart. In the four residential buildings, long wings containing study bedrooms embrace intimate garden courtyards. Located in the college building itself where three wings surround the double-height atrium, are the teaching functions.
An extensive panoramic window provides a view of the landscape towards the east. From the overhanging balconies under continuous runs of roof lights, and from freestanding cubic pods within the space, life within the college can be felt and seen, as can the variety of weather moods impacting on the space beneath the large glass roof. The atrium also provides access to a spacious outdoor terrace. The materials used are few and simple: dark brick, pale concrete and glass.
