Description:
The Salt Crystals is a 16.900 square metres large hotel and congress centre at the former central ferry landing, Ångfärjan, at the approach of Helsingborg, Sweden, on the southern part of the city alongside Halmtorget and the Elsinore Wharf. 17,100 square metres of residential buildings are also part of the project. The structure of the buildings arise from the processing of the building grid which, as an interpretation of the general block structure of the neighbourhood, creates a crystalline expression. This is why the project is called The Salt Crystals.
The Hotel and Congress Centre becomes a catalyst for the development of the harbour area of the city as well as a new landmark for Helsingborg. The new cultural hub is going to connect the historical part of Helsingborg with the bright, modernist architecture at the promenade of Norra Hamn.
The volumes of the building have been broken down and sculpturally adapted in order to express the main components of the Hotel and Congress Centre clearly: a reception, a lobby, a hotel, a conference centre, a café, a restaurant and a catering centre. The height of the building increases progressively from three to twelve floors.
An interconnected residential block with shops at ground level will be located at the northern part of the plot. The residential buildings, which will be U-shaped, have separate pavilions for cultural purposes. The height of the buildings varies from two to ten storeys. On the North-eastern part of the plot, the tallest units are withdrawn towards the street Kungsgatan, while the lowest ones are situated at the waterfront. Consequently, all of the apartments will enjoy an undisturbed view of the water front and the sunlight from the south.
