Description:
ILVA’s home furnishing stores are spacious and open. The project in Thurrock follows the design concept of ILVA Ishøj where a stand-alone dark-toned volume opens up with extensive glazed façades that reveal the showroom and furnishings within.
From the entrance, visitors are led in the direction of the double-height atrium where new products and seasonal items are displayed. From here, the stairs to the first floor are such a central feature as to leave no doubt that this is where the browsing and shopping adventure begins. While the atrium is the central hub of the building from where it is easy to scope out the various furniture categories, the showroom comprises a mix of downlit displays, furnished room sets and decorative platform displays. The cafeteria is located next to the glazed façade on the first floor. The guiding priority of the layout has been to provide shoppers with inspiration as they meander through the showroom. With the furniture sections primarily taking the form of room sets, shoppers get the chance to view the furniture in domestic settings. The shopper is guided through a diversity of spaces, articulated by means of carefully designed, differentiated lighting effects, spatial heights and surfaces.
