Description:
The first ILVA store outside Denmark, ILVA Malmö, is centrally situated in the Oresund Region. The building is a north/south-oriented rectangular volume, and it has an open main façade looking out onto the arrival and parking area. The exterior is articulated as a closed volume clad with dark grey Chinese basalt.
With its serene façade and crisp, simple signage, it blends discreetly into its surroundings. The glass façade is mullionless and supported horizontally by load-bearing glass fins. Behind the glass, the waste heat captured from the building’s installations and lighting is re-circulated. From the entrance, the visitor is led to the double-height atrium where new merchandise and seasonal items are displayed. From here a striking staircase provides access to the first floor, located so that the visitor is automatically led upwards in the building. In the ground floor showroom furniture is displayed, but there are other spatial experiences too including a somewhat closed off and softly lit bed area, and an open and closely packed department for furnishing accessories. The visual contact to the outside at the corner staircase and from the café down to the atrium means that the customer retains an overview throughout the building. The key highlights of the building include the visually strong main façade, the double-height arrival area, the showrooms with overhead lighting and the distinctive corner staircase.
